New Linux Mint 7 Gloria Experience!

Loving the Experience on my new Linux Mint 7 Gloria!

Im going to list the current Pros and Cons that I have found while using Linux Mint.

Pros:

  • Awesome Animations; Cube, Window Effects, On-Screen Fire, Annotations, etc.
  • Everything is Free.
  • Good Games that you can play.
  • Organized.
  • Extremely fast Boot-up time.

Cons:
  • Freezes a BUNCH!

Yup, loving it. Just hate the freezing part of it. I am still adapting to Linux, but from what I am getting right now, I would only use Linux for fast Boot-up Internet use, and maybe a little bit of gaming, but nothing else.

I am planning on uploading a video to my Youtube account once I figure out how to make a screencast on Linux.

Media Player

I made an observation upon my Media Player that I have which is currently Winamp.

I installed and tried a Media Player called Media Monkey. When I first opened it up, it looked attractive before it started crashing. It doesn't seem to be at its full potential yet. It recently updated to a new version (3.0) but still needs work.

I am looking to installing the Media Player, Foobar2000, later. But I am going to fix up Winamp to the way I want it before I look to install the Foobar2000.

iPod Classic Notes for Asian Characters

I have recently been trying to make notes in my 80GB iPod Classic and have been experimenting. I figured out how to add Japanese Characters to my Notes on my iPod Classic. The only thing you have to do is save your Windows Notepad document (.txt) while changing the Encoding to UTF-8 and it should save those characters.

Now, I can study Japanese on the go. There is a character/spacing/memory limit though... I will figure what that limit is later. I will update this once I find out that limit.

Please Comment if you have any difficulties.

I had fun looking through that book. I was kind of a 'wow' to as to how fast I got through that book. I didn't read it at all though... I just looked at the titles and images and took a look at what sounded interesting.

TwitterFox for Mozilla Firefox

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5081
TwitterFox, now known as Echofon, is an application for Mozilla Firefox that I just recently updated.

The Change : From what I saw, the change from the TwitterFox to the Echofon was the fact that it has more capabilities. From going to just posting and seeing posts, now you can see your "Mentions"; which shows you your replies from your followers, and your "Messages" which is pretty self explanatory. At first, I thought TwitterFox was good enough for me, but now, I have more thanks to Echofon.

This is a very useful tool if you a big Twitter fan.

Web Browsers

About a month ago I started to fiddle around with my internet browsers and started to uninstall, install, and reinstall a couple variety's of internet browsers. I checked out the Google Chrome, the Apple Safari, Opera, and Firefox. I enjoyed Firefox for a couple years, but then I had this Mac fetish and had to install Safari.

Google Chrome
This one is a simple one. But it just didn't fit my needs. I need a browser that is mostly customizable and that is a dependable browser. This one is not the one for me. It is fast, and simple. But hardly customizable and is still a little bit bugged up because of it new taste in the internet society. I had an experience with one bug for the uninstallation and re-installation. While trying to fiddle with the Chrome, screwed up the theme, then uninstalled and tried but kept failing to reinstall Google Chrome. Then I figured that the bug was an uninstallation bug, and the files that were stored in windows after an installation and had to be removed before you could reinstall. This Error is specified as Google Chrome Error 6.

Apple Safari
This one is not too customizable either which is the only negative I would have to say. (but not if you are a Mac lover) Everything else is positive. The new look organization of the Apple Safari is gorgeous new glassy iPod look. Its lovely and fits as a part of the Apple Family very well.

Opera
Now, Opera. The customization magician. You can almost change anything you want on this baby. You've got hundreds of widgets that you can use in Opera along with a bunch of other functional features, for example; the trash can. Check its website out if you want to know more about the features.

Firefox
I see absolutely nothing wrong with Firefox, except beauty unlike the Apple Safari. Needs more Glass? I could say. Had this one for about 4 years and loved it. Has plug-ins, fun themes, speed, and safety. Check it out, if you like it great! If not, sorry Firefox.

Well, I currently have the Apple Safari. Want me to make a tutorial on something about Apple Safari that you are confused about? Comment! :D

Edit.08.22.09
Okay, Apple Safari has not been letting me access some webpages on the internet weirdly enough. So, I changed to Opera. Now Opera is acting weird and wont let me log in to Youtube.com or Blogger.com. Right now, I am editing through Internet Explorer... Lame...
I guess I am heading back to Firefox. Currently the best browser out there.

Mac-like Docks on Windows

Operating System used for this Topic: Windows Vista Home Basic

Just to let you know, I plan on getting a iMac Book Pro and am a Mac lover, so this is towards that.

I have been looking at the Mac-like docks for a while and have been customizing, adding and removing docklets, changing themes, etc. I have downloaded mulitple different Mac-like Docks which are RocketDock, ObjectDock, and RKLauncher. And I have came to realize that ObjectDock is the best one out of all.

RocketDock

I had a couple problems with this one. I would guess that anyone that even installs any Dock wants full customization of it. Well, that is what it gave me, but... holy moly. A friggin lot of problems on this bugger with my OS. The minimized windows wouldn't show a preview of even an icon, and it kept on resetting itself from failure of starting up. So this one was not for me.

RKLauncher

This one gave me a couple problems too. Can't remember exactly, but I believe it was similar to RocketDock's problems.

ObjectDock

I havn't really fallen into any problems with this one at all. It runs well, it associates the icons with the minimized windows in the dock and loves the customization settings in this one too. The reason why I uninstalled it the first time is because I couldn't find the Mac OS X Leopard Theme for it. So, i did some research and found out that RocketDock was the one that is involved in the Windows Vista Transformation to Mac OS X Leopard. But, RocketDock was giving be a ugly load of problems. So, after I had tried all these Docks, I finally found the Mac OS X Leopard Theme for Object Dock. Ugh.

Here is a couple links for the Object Dock Mac OS X Leopard Theme just in case you want it. : D

Also, as I was going through all these docks, I wanted and found the Stacks Docklet. (image) There is one for RocketDock but is also usable in ObjectDock. Download it here .

How to add Docklets to ObjectDock (Coming Soon)
